"The last clear definite function of man—muscles aching to work, minds aching to create beyond the single need—this is man" (150).
this quote from The Grapes of Wrath shows the connectivity of the people. even with the men and women working with their "muscles" and "minds" they are working to fulfill their "single need". this one need could be their need for food, water or even their need to be together with the rest of the family. the last need connects a lot to transcendentalism because even as each individual person works to claim their share of the booty it also allows them to continue on for the other times that they work for the common goal.
